I used granny smith apples. I omitted the nutmeg and mace and used more cinnamon. I used water. I didn't puree the apples. I only mashed them with a fork. It's thick like a compote and it's really yummy. Thanks Baby Kato :) Made for Newest Zaar tag

This was a lovely topping for some buttermilk pancakes! I reduced it down to 1/2 cup, used Granny Smith apple, cider (not water) and since I didn't have any mace I added a little extra nutmeg. Also used (fresh) lime juice instead of lemon and triple sec instead of GM, just because they were already on hand. I didn't have to boil for quite as long since it was a smaller quantity (about 3 minutes and it was already pretty thick, even without the cornstarch). I very much enjoyed this and look forward to trying it in other ways besides over pancakes. Thanks for sharing!

Kato honey, I got to tell you this is absolutely FANTASTIC. Infact, this ranks in my top 1 or two recipes I have tried. I made 4 cups, and dropped them by my neighbors this morning, and it didn't take them long to knock and rave on tis absolutely delicious syrup, so I gave them the recipe. I used apple cider, instead of water because we live near the largest apple orchard in the United States, so apple flavored recipes are very common here. Definately a keeper, and thanks so many for posting this 10 star recipe. Made for Zaar Stars.

Wow...this syrup is fabulous!! This goes together quickly and easily and has the most wonderful spiced flavor, similar to apple butter. The orange liqueur and spices compliment the apples perfectly to create the perfect syrup to use on a variety of foods. We used this on waffles and I can't wait to try it on ice cream, I'll bet its to die for!! I used Granny Smith apples and Cointreau instead of the Grand Marnier. Also, I pureed the apples in the pot with my immersion blender (less cleanup :) . My family loved this syrup and gave it 2 huge thumbs up. Thanks Baby Kato!!

Nice, warm comfort food! I don't like maple syrup and won't buy the commercially made syrups, so this is a great homemade version. I used Granny Smith, no mace, fresh lemon juice, Smart Bal. 50/50 blend, apple juice (for the cider), and orange juice concentrate (for the Grand Marnier). This was done in 1/2 hour, and I used my hand blender to puree the apples. I poured it into 2 (12 oz) canning jars, so it will be easy to warm up. Thanks BK!

Made for PAC, Spring 07 ~ Well, I'll have to join the group of reviewers by saying that this is most probably one of THE very best syrups I've had in a long, long time ~ AND IT'S HOME-MADE, too!! I managed to scrounge some Grand Marnier from a neighbor, but if I make this as often as I intend, I'll have to go out an buy a bottle of the stuff for myself!! I had it on ice cream, but am impatient to try it over pancakes, as well as....[many other things!]. Your posting of this recipe is most appreciated!

Kato, you have hit the mother-load with this recipe! I made it last night and guests had it warmed on gingerbread pancakes this morning and now they say that they are never going to leave, This is an absolute rave for your syrup but I don't really think I want them forever so I'm going to have to rethink making this again any time soon *wink*. 5 stars hon.

Delicious, this one of those "too good" recipes! I omitted the mace as I did not have any and increased the vanilla to 2 teaspoons, I will be serving this with waffles for weekend brunch, soooooo good, thanks BK!...Kitten:)
