  1. I halved this recipe and made it exactly as written. It didn't specify in the recipe, but I melted the butter in the microwave before making the batter. I made waffles in my Belgium waffle maker, and then topped it off with chocolate syrup, sliced bananas, whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Yummy! Made for Jan 2010 Comfort Cafe.

  2. This recipe is perfect just as is. I made it with milk because water just sounded yucky. It is very thick, but just use a second spoon to load it onto the waffle iron. Great as a cookie, or with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of hot fudge sauce, which I will serve my father for dessert next time.

  3. Great! Half it. Makes plenty and I also melted the butter. Takes like Texas chocolate sheet cake

  4. This is the second chocolate waffle recipe I've tried. The first one was too sweet and had a grainy feel to it. But this one is just right in terms of sweetness and texture. The mild sweetness leaves room for syrup, jams and sweet fruits. The whole family, my husband, my small kids and me love it! The recipe made 14 pcs. of approximately 1/2 inch thick regular sized square waffles. Will definitely make this again! Thank you for the recipe.

  5. These are wonderful. Daughter (5yo) says we LOVED them! Made the recipe as written (more or less) but did not have regular cocoa powder on hand (gasp!) but I used Rich Chocolate Ovaltine in its place and worked just fine. The added maltiness was a bonus. However, having read reviews I decided to take a chance and use 1/3 cup water and 1/3 cup milk (2%) and consistency seemed just right. Oh, and I too melted the butter first. How did they cook up? Perfect! Not crusty, not squishy. Just right. Our waffle iron goes from 1 to 5. I cooked them on 2. They were rich and delicious anbanbd we decided to eat them without any topping. But then our daughter decided hers called for a happy face so out came a couple banana slices with a drop of choc syrup for eyes and a gooey smile and done! Thanks for sharing this recipe. You're leaving this world better than you found it....or at least my recipe box.

  1. I followed the recipe exactly at first but using only half the recipe that yield 7 pcs. 1/2 inch thick regular sized square waffles. It was so yummy that I had to make more for our family of 4 for breakfast this morning. When I realized that I didn't have anymore butter I used vegetable oil instead. Batter turned out thinner but nonetheless I got the same delicious chocolate waffle. My family loved our special breakfast. Thank you again for the recipe.

  2. used sour cream instead of butter....used some margarine too. Added sour cream till the right consistency. Really yummy and sweet. Fave recipe since so easy. my kids added graham crackers and marshmallows that they torched with my supervision. Was amazing.

  3. Very Rich and thick but good. Instead of water I used milk and apple juice to sweeten it more (as if that was needed). Also added a bit of cinnamon just for a more dynamic flavor. Next time I'll try using less butter and cocoa, and substitute in yogurt (makes waffles more fluffy).

Hi! I have enjoyed this forum long enough I thought I needed to get involved. I am first a mom. (Doesn't that about take up all the rest of the time?) I also work at my sons school part time. I used to teach but now I am an aide part time. No Homework!!! I still get out of the house and meet my kids friends, smile to smile. After teaching full time being an aide is heavenly.
